For Your Well-Structured Wine
Knowing when to start your grape harvest determines the resulting quality of your wine.
Together with the Wine Meister smartphone app for iOS and Android, the SmartRef assesses sugar content of your grapes to identify the ideal harvesting timing and calculates the potential alcohol content of your grapes in Brix or Oechsle.
The Wine Meister app can track the must weight to monitor the fermentation and helps you to determine the residual sugar.

Smarter Harvest Decision with SmartRef
The art of winemaking begins before the grape harvest – in the vineyard, where perfect timing is crucial. As the grapes ripen, their sugar content increases, and picking at the right time is crucial for wine quality.
Experienced winemakers often rely on their experience, but it's even more reliable with tools like the SmartRef digital refractometer. With the 100-berry test, you can sample grapes from various locations in your vineyard, crush them, and then drip the juice directly onto the SmartRef and measure it.
Using the Wine Meister app, you can precisely determine the grape's Brix value and measure the potential alcohol content.
No smartphone available for measurement? No problem – your Apple Watch does it right there. SmartRef ensures that your harvest time is based not just on intuition, but on data.

What Can the Wine Meister App Do?

Take Control of Fermentation with SmartRef
As soon as the grapes are picked and fermentation begins, the conversion of sugar to alcohol begins. You can now track the fermentation process SmartRef. This digital tool allows you to track fermentation in units such as SG20/20, °Brix, °KMW, °Baumé, or °Oechsle – whichever suits your process. SmartRef users can save their original gravity (OG) in the app before fermentation. Each subsequent measurement is automatically corrected for alcohol content, giving you reliable results without manual conversion. During fermentation, the app visualizes the fermentation curve in a clear graph and, once the final gravity (FG) is determined, calculates the estimated alcohol content.
Consistent Quality with Custom Recipes
Whether you’re a hobbyist or pro, consistency matters. With the Wine Meister app, you can create complete recipes or use existing recipes. Set targets for parameters such as original gravity, harvest information, potential alcohol content, total acidity, pH, residual sugar, and fermentation days. Once everything is defined, you can quickly determine whether your process is within the desired range.

What about Residual Sugar?
The only question that remains is the residual sugar content. The Wine Meister app offers you two calculators for white wine to determine the residual sugar automatically – a simple one and an advanced one. For more information, see our blog post "Determine the residual sugar in wine with EasyDens & Wine Meister app."
But the app calculator goes one step further: It can convert between Babo, Baumé, Brix, KMW, Oechsle, and specific gravity. There's even a Brix acidity correction tool to adjust your Brix value based on the measured acidity.
